We Made a Comic and You Can Read it for FREE

Huzzah!

I don’t want to bury the lead here, so, WE MADE A COMIC AND YOU CAN READ IT NOW:

RIVER - THE FIRST COMIC BY FUGITIVE POEMS

Read the comic now and then come back. I’ll be here sipping whiskey when you return.

Welcome back. Whaddaya think?

We’re pretty psyched about it.

A little bit about “River” and Fugitive Poems. James and I began working together a few years ago. The story for “River” came from a writing challenge I’d given my students. They were to write a one-sentence story somehow including or alluding to all the following randomly selected words:

Backpack, pants, horse, beer, doctor, raid, snow, dog, key, corpse.

Naturally, I had to take the challenge myself. Forgive me for not sharing the resultant one-sentence story here, but I know a couple of you decided to read this first and the comic later. Despite your flagrant disregard for rules (I get it; me too), I don’t want to ruin any surprises. (Why not take a run at it yourself?)

The important thing is it kinda cracked me up and I shared it with my colleague and fellow purveyor of weird, James Lines. Immediately we started riffing. What that jam session yielded was markedly different than the sentence’s humble beginnings.

I wanted to write it. He wanted to draw it.

And we made a comic.

Fugitive Poems’ lunatic moment is only beginning. Many more short, strange tales are already in development, and our big story, the reason we got together, lurks grinning in the wings. We hope you enjoy “River” and share it wherever you can. We’ve got a few buttons right below here to help out with that.

James and I have got a lot more in the hopper and your support means the world.

Thank you and we hope you enjoyed this slice of grotesque,

Christian De Matteo, Fugitive Poems
